Catch-Up #27: 9-1-1

Okay, so not to beat a dead horse but I’m late again! This time, though, I swear it was not my fault. In fact, I was all set to not just be on time, but prepared and on time, I had been making notes and writing all week and then… technical issues. Yes, very legitimately.

I was all set to be written and published in time for the new episodes of 9-1-1 – at least their US release, anyways – and then I was rudely interrupted by issues of the tech variety. Nevertheless having finally remedied those I am hastily writing this on my Thursday night – and by that I mean typing up the draft I already had, so you’ll have to excuse my possibly outdated theories – and just hoping I get it out before the episode drops.

Curse you, UK residency.

To that point though, the original scope of this post has been edited for speed and ease.

Okay, into this we go.

Where Am I?

As is quite implied, I am All Caught Up! So, that’s good.

Now we just wait for the new episodes to come. I don’t expect to be watching the new episodes on the 6th, largely because I unfortunately live in the UK, and I have learned better than to get my hopes up for synchronised episode drops, but I do eagerly await all the edits I will definitely watch in spite of spoilers. I have no self control. I will watch the episodes when we get them a few weeks later – supposedly, on the 21st.

Anyways! Season 8a. It’s a lovely little show, isn’t it? Or not so little at 8 Seasons.

I have to say I was not disappointed by the Madney discussions in Episode 6. They were cute and lovely and as always, I adore them. I was disappointed by the lack of Maddie in the mid-season finale, which by the way had absolutely no mid-season finale vibes. That was just plain disappointing, if not underwhelming. Not their best. But, we are all excited for what’s to come, crossing our fingers with hope and such. Those trailers look exciting, huh?

We all saw the new trailers over the last few days, I’m assuming… scream included. I then proceeded to see that in so many edits it’s burned into my ears. I am excited for any Maddie arc, but I also want her to be okay.

I am a little confused as to why we’re crossing over with Doctor Odyssey, seemingly. From what I’ve read, of all the characters to appear on the cruise ship it’s going to be Athena which seems… insane… considering recent past events. Suppose of all the characters careers, hers is the one that makes the most sense to be there, but it also feels like she is one of the two characters who absolutely would not be stepping foot on a cruise ship anytime soon. Who knows? Maybe that’s incorrect information.

I’m aware both shows are created by Ryan Murphy, and considering Doctor Odyssey‘s time-slot there’s potentially a lot of audience crossover, but I still find the event to be an odd one when neither show has alluded to one another so far. Alas, we’ll take what we get.

Moving on from that, however, we should discuss my theory I cut from the last post.

Okay, so as mentioned at the time of writing my last post I was only two episodes into Season 8, but I did know a little of what was to come – if only because I absolutely cannot help myself and had watched every Maddie edit I had come across – now having watched the stuff I’d already spoiled for myself we can discuss a theory I’ve had for months.

See, as of Episode 806: “Confessions”, Maddie is pregnant again. The very lovely Madney discussions around the topic aside – which I have seen edited to death, I love them all – there’s then The Promos, and also the fact, Jennifer Love Hewitt, as of the last interviews I saw, is not pregnant.

I have a theory that she is going to lose it.

We’ve had Hen and Karen’s failed IVF story, but we are yet to have a miscarriage storyline in 9-1-1. Like they’ve covered many forms of family, and losing them and gaining them and etc… but they haven’t done that yet. I just feel as though, if any arc was to potentially be traumatic enough to cause one (not that trauma is strictly necessary for such circumstances) a kidnapping would certainly be it. Compounded with the fact there’s no external reasons, so far as we know, and it’s therefor an entirely internal plot-line, fabricated from the mind of a writer and not a convenient plot hook.

It’ giving JJ in Episode 914: “200”, don’t you think?

Which would be something considering AJ Cook’s role in Episode 512: “Boston”.

Also, JLH seems genuinely excited about what’s to come and I think that should terrify us all. Irregardless of what happens.

I want to be wrong, just to be clear on that, I so badly want to be wrong. There is really no evidence as to my theory. It is just a thought that my brain had and I would love for my brain, like it has many times before, to be wrong.

Those Promos, Those Promos, Those Promos. Look, I grew up watching Criminal Minds. I am starting to suspect it has severely shaped how I view certain pieces of media or aspects of those pieces of media. The last trailer we got that gave us new information, new scenes… enough screams to bring tears. Let’s just say I have hopes and thoughts.

Largely, I am choosing to believe that that is a scream of anger, frustration and determination. Largely for my own sanity, but also out of hope. Maddie has survived a kidnapping once, she can do so again. This time she’s fighting not just for herself, but for Jee and Chim too. She’s got this. That is not a call for help, that is a yell of determination. She Will Survive.

And also, I’m not going to put an image here because it hurts me to find it – so, feel free to watch the trailer yourself for context – but is that a mattress behind her? So many years of Criminal Minds inform me that such an item could be an indicator of a long term stay, so to speak. Which has positives and negatives. For instance, it implies plans to be kept alive. Yay, her chances for survival just increased. However, it could also imply it genuinely will drag on and Maddie has been through enough. The fact this is happening at all is already too much. Maddie has been through it! Do we not all remember Boston? Her recovery from Doug’s attempt? We do not need a repeat, and it could be so much worse if it is dragged on.

Hyped for a Maddie arc, hoping it will be over so fast from her perspective.

Okay, that about covers us!

To Conclude

It’s short, I know, but there was an unexpected time crunch. Let’s all just be glad it’s out at all.
