Catch-Up #17: Murders and Crime Fighters

Okay so… I am late… BUT, in fairness, it was not entirely my fault this time. Let’s just say I have been BUSY this last week and then I’ve had some WiFi issues in that I didn’t have any making writing and publishing very hard. However, that issue is vaguely sorted, and with this very hectic weekend now behind me, not that this week is due to get much calmer but I have a spare moment, let’s dive into this post.

With time being scarce, this is going to be a Catch-Up irregardless of any finished watching just for my ease. So, let’s start with the one I remember the most and go from there.

Only Murders In The Building

You know the last thing you expect a show with ‘Murders’ in it’s title to be is cosy, but this is strangely cosy and sort of wholesome. I kind of love it.

I had watching OMITB Season 1 before, way back when it was dropping week by week on Disney+, and enjoyed it quite a lot. I was very invested, guessing the murderer each week. For whatever reason, though, I did not keep up as Season 2 and Season 3 came out. I actually don’t think there was a reason I didn’t keep up, I just never got around to it, I guess, because I remember quite enjoying Season 1. Irregardless, with Season 4 dropping currently and the trailers being all over my feeds I thought it was about time I check back in on Charles, Oliver and Mabel, and see what’s going on.

Let’s just say I was not disappointed.

It is really an odd trio, when you think about. Two retirees and a millennial (I think) but it works shockingly well, and I am very invested in them as a group of friends. What an unlikely trio. The cases they work are no less enticing, and I am always guessing throughout the show. That is not to say I am always right, but I try very hard. I do like that when you go back and watch it, at least with my experience of Season 1 there is the clues to who the killer was even if the trio didn’t consider them until like Episode 8 at the earliest.

The meta jokes, by the way, are a really nice touch that I quite enjoy. I hope they continue. This show, amongst its many murders in one building, is comedy gold. It is a blast to watch.

A character I didn’t see still appearing was Theo, but I am glad he made an appearance in Season 3, brief as it was. I like the friendship Mabel seems to be developing with him, and if I heard it right, she is now crashing with him? She even seemed to be learning some ASL, which is very sweet. The episode focused around him and from his perspective, in Season 1, was arguably one of the best of the season. It was remarkably well done.

Speaking of guest stars can we talk briefly about the famous faces this show has hooked in? I mean it’s leading cast in Martin Short, Steve Martin and Selena Gomez is already absolutely stellar, but then guest stars include the likes of Meryl Streep, Paul Rudd, Cara Delevingne, Amy Schumer… to name a few! I am astonished.

To finish off, I am waiting a few weeks for some more episodes of Season 4 before I watch it as I like to binge episodes, but, once I do, I will of course update you.

Criminal Minds

After I finished Evolution I watched Seasons 1 & 2 again, largely just to fill the void. When you’ve watched a show so often it makes great background noise while you’re doing other stuff.

I had, however, not watched those early seasons in a long time. Long enough that I actually was surprised at some of the details. They were nevertheless fantastic episodes as I remembered, and it was fun to dive back into this show I adore so much.

I was reminded once again how absolutely underrated both JJ and Garcia feel in those early seasons. Like we know they didn’t plan on Garcia sticking around, but JJ’s whole vibe in Season 1 also gives off “we didn’t initially plan for this character” and it makes me sad. They are obviously the best ones. Yes, I’m gay, why’d you ask?

Anyways, that’s about all I have to say about this phenomenal show I adore so much. I wasn’t exactly watching it for the plot these past two weeks as much as I was just watching it because it was there… and by watching I mean vaguely listening while I did stuff.

Downloads

This great thing about some streaming services now is your ability to download stuff to your device and watch offline. Now, you’ll recall I mentioned I had no WiFi this weekend. Well, knowing the night before that I was due to have no WiFi I downloaded some of my all time favourite shows to watch while that got sorted. These being Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 2 and The Legend of Vox Machina.

I have watched portions of both, with much glee. I now want to watch both AOS and more Critical Role at the same time. It is confusing on my brain and it cannot decide. I am, however, beyond excited for the new season of TLOVM coming next month and will be watching it as soon as is humanely possible.

Irregardless, I really do need to continue with Critical Role. I haven’t watched any since I finished Campaign 1 at Easter and I am starting to miss them, as it were. So perhaps we’ll pick up where I left off and keep watching soon. Once my schedule clears up anyways, because it is very hectic right now and I don’t necessarily have the time to sit down to 4 hours of D&D regularly at the moment.

Yet, I could quite easily watch AOS again, as well… So… We shall see, I suppose.

To Conclude

Late but here!

Thanks for reading this week, it was hopefully brief but fun and you shall join me once again in just under a fortnight now for the next post. When I have time again, effort will be put into the other categories newly introduced in this year of The BOMFF, as well. For now, though, we’ll stick to FF posts.

Thanks once more!
