Catch-Up #16: Castle

What a week! It has taken a minute, but would you believe we are moving on? I am still in a loving Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. mood, but finally something new has completely caught my attention.

So, though I am a little late, lets dive in to this new fixation with Castle.

We have some stuff scheduled and planned this week, it is looking busy. So, I’ll try to be quick here.

Where Am I?

At the time of writing I am due to watch Episode 515: “Target”. I have a sneaking suspicion that the next two episodes are a two parter, and not only that but I have read some upcoming episode summaries and have somewhat of an idea where we’re heading. Needless to say, that is two hour commitment I will prepare myself for before continuing to watch.

I have, however, enjoyed the show so far! I am quite happy to have surpassed the endless slow burn and be into the relationship stage of their relationship, as many ups and downs as I am sure they have. It was a cute slow burn, and I am more than convinced of their feelings for each other as a result, but it was just as frustrating as they all tend to be, if not more so.

Still, it’s nice something has caught my attention enough to have me binging half a season (or more) in a day. This being a familiar experience.

Their Love is Frustrating

How did they manage to have a jealousy arc after Caskett finally got together? Like all the ones before weren’t enough? And yet here we are twice more after they’re together? They feel… insecure in their relationship, and it’s almost dissappointing because after all they went through to get here, the multiple times they’ve each proved how much they care, can they not see that in each other? Do they not see what we see? Have some confidence in yourselves, please.

Having an arc around Meredith visiting makes sense. Jealousy maybe loosely, but insecurity in that situation is certainly valid, I just wish they’d each have more faith in each other, in themselves. But then you have that episode where Castle fakes going on a date (which is dumb) to dissuade suspicion as if there was any (more than usual) to begin with. It’s a stupidly dumb plan, but they’re together goddamn it! We had enough of these jealousy arcs before they were a thing, I don’t want to see more.

Four Seasons. Four Seasons of waiting! Four Seasons of nearly confessions, and fakeouts and interruptions, of setbacks, doubts and idiocy, lying and procrastination, and just plain fear. Honesty goes a long way. You watch Four Seasons of nearly’s, and maybe’s and someday’s and it gets frustrating. Just be happy, guys. They deserve each other, and they work so well together. There’s been enough doubt for four seasons already! We know they love each other, now if only they would believe it’ll work.

I can’t tell if it’s better or worse than Brennan and Booth’s blatant obliviousness. Like, for a hundred episodes Brennan is definitely oblivious to her or Booth’s own feelings, Booth has enough self-awareness and the vibe of someone who may have considered it early on, but has since buried that deep inside to the point of near obliviousness. Castle and Beckett figure out their own feelings fairly early on, though. Kate’s annoyance doesn’t last, and Castle grows sweeter. They just don’t say it, and occasionally are interrupted be circumstance or incorrect assumptions when they try to. I don’t know if this is better.

In a way, it is less frustrating. It still very much is frustrating, and annoying. They always feel just a few right words, just one fearless moment, one honest conversation away from actually being a couple. Whereas Brennan and Booth just come across as oblivious idiots for six seasons straight. But what are comparisons?

Caskett stand very well on their own right. They are sweet, and perfect and so good for each other. I am officially invested. I will try to watch them to the end this time. I am not vexed about spoilers in regards to these, but that doesn’t mean I’m searching them out. Just want to see their happy ending. Their love. I’m here, you’ve caught me. Let’s keep going.

To Conclude

I think this will do for this week. It’s quick and easy. Get’s the point across. You’re now caught up on what I’ve been up to, what I’m invested in. It’s not a lot this week but it’s enough.

There is some anniversaries coming up, and I’m hoping to write a post for those, as well as another FF post before the end of the month, so I shall see you for those. There is also a post scheduled for this Wednesday so tune back in then!

With that said, thank you for reading this far, I know it’s not too much this week, but it’s a Catch-Up. I will see you (hopefully on time) in two weeks time for another edition of Fortnightly Fixations.

Until then, thank you once more for reading.
